Diamond plate – Instructions on how to use as protective cover.
Diamond plate is an ideal material to be used for protective and still decorative cover. It is made out of metal plate with diamond shapes pressed or rolled in to the metal sheets.
Diamond plate or checkered plate is often used for protecting the insides of trucks and trailers or staircases. It can applied to almost all surfaces that need heavy protection from scratches and bumping. Diamond plate comes in big sizes just as sheet metal and is mostly from stainless steel or aluminum applying it is easy when you have the right equipment and have made proper preparations
First thing to do is to measure. Take measurements of the thing you want to protect or decorate with diamond plate. Turn the diamond plate upside down so you don’t have any problem with drawing the outlines on the diamond plate (when you don’t its kinda difficult to draw straight lines with all the diamond patterns in the way.
Secondly saw the sheet out. It is best to use a band saw for this but a table saw will also do the trick. Stay close to the lines that saves you a lot of sanding down later on.
Third you need to get rid of the sharp edges on your freshly cut diamond plate by sanding them down. You might even need to correct a little sawing error here and there.
Now it is time to drill holes to mount your diamond plate. Draw out evenly spaced dots on the sheet and then just drill out the holes. Remember to keep around half an inch from the side.
Now you can mount the fitting diamond plate onto the place where you want it. Maybe you need to drill little holes into the material first to make it a little easier to get the screws into place.
There you go, you’ve succesfully cut and installed diamond plate.
